Back and Neck Pain
Most issues of neck pain are due to a muscle strain or other soft tissue sprain like ligaments and tendons. This type of injury can also be caused by a whiplash, a sudden force or accidents. These types of neck pain often improve with time and with non-surgical care such as medications and chiropractic manipulation. But if the neck pain continues or worsens or gets expanded to arm pain or numbness, it might need specific treatment. Cervical degenerative disc disease, cervical herniated disc, cervical stenosis, and cervical arthritis usually lead to neck pain. Each of these conditions has unique symptoms and treatment approaches. However, Back pain is the most common complaint we get. According to recent studies and survey, approximately 80% of all Indians suffer from lower back pain at least once in a lifetime. Even though back pain can affect people of any age, it is significantly more common among adults aged between 35 and 55 years.
Back Pain has many known and unknown risk factor In diagnosis. Following are the known and unknown risk factors that may lead to severe Back related problems-
- Anxiety and Depression
- Age- older age tend to have more back problems as compared to younger age as with age
- Arduous Physical exercises
- Strained muscles
Usually back pain is categorized into two segments:
Acute - This type comes on suddenly and persists for a maximum of three months. It may be experienced as aching, burning, stabbing, sharp or dull, well-defined, or vague. The intensity may range from mild to severe or both. The symptoms of acute low back pain are usually benign and self limited.
Chronic - The pain gradually develops over a longer period, lasts for over three months, and causes long-term problems. Depression is by far the most common emotion associated with chronic back pain. The type of depression that often accompanies chronic pain is referred to as major depression or clinical depression.
The lower back is subject to a lot of mechanical stress and strain. The reason is the weight of the upper body, which always puts loads on the lower back.
